My photo
Having a large Scottish heritage that migrated from England into Canada to Maine and other states. I am from a family of 9. Six girls and 3 boys. My dad died young when I was about 8 years old. I have 4 children and 3 step children with the great joy of 20 grandchildren. I worked in financial institutions and accounting for many years. Now I sew and make lots of stuffed animals and many other things. I'm a grandmother that has years of sewing in a wide variety of catagories. Photography has become one of my passions over the years. Nature that God has presented us is one of the greatest to photograph. My family and pets hate to see me with a camera in my hands. The bug took hold at Christmas time taking photos of my children in front of the tree. That became a tradition. Then you have family gatherings, vacations, grandchildren and the list could go on.

God and Me as shared on Facebook

Me: God, can I ask You a question?
God: Sure
Me: Promise You won't get mad
God: I promise
Me: Why did You let so much stuff happen to me today?
God: What do u mean?
Me: Well, I woke up late
God: Yes
Me: My car took forever to start
God: Okay
Me: at lunch they made my sandwich wrong & I had to wait
God: Hmmmmm
Me: On the way home, my phone went DEAD, just as I picked up a call
God: All right
Me: And on top of it all off, when I got home ~I just want to soak my feet in my new foot massager & relax. BUT it wouldn't work!!! Nothing went right today! Why did You do that?

God: Let me see, the death angel was at your bed this morning & I had to send one
of My Angels to battle him for your life. I let you sleep through that
Me (humbled): OH
GOD: I didn't let your car start because there was a drunk driver on your route that would have hit you if you were on the road.
Me: (ashamed)
God: The first person who made your sandwich today was sick & I didn't want you to catch what they have, I knew you couldn't afford to miss work.
Me (embarrassed):Okay
God: Your phone went dead bcuz the person that was calling was going to give false witness about what you said on that call, I didn't even let you talk to them so you would be covered.
Me (softly): I see God
God: Oh and that foot massager, it had a short that would knock out all of the power in your house tonight. I didn't think you wanted to be in the dark.
Me: I'm Sorry God

God: Don't be sorry, just learn to Trust Me.... in All things , the Good & the bad.
Me: I will trust You.
God: And don't doubt that My plan for your day is Always Better than your plan.
Me: I won't God. And let me just tell you God, Thank You for Everything today.
God: You're welcome child. It was just another day being your God and I Love looking after My Children...

Colors of Life as taken from Facebook share

♥ Daddy's Poem ♥

----------------------
Her hair was up in a pony tail,
Her favorite dress tied with a bow.
Today was Daddy's Day at school,
And she couldn't wait to go.

But her mommy tried to tell her,
That she probably should stay home.
Why the kids might not understand,
If she went to school alone.

But she was not afraid;
She knew just what to say.
What to tell her classmates
Of why he wasn't there today.

But still her mother worried,
For her to face this day alone.
And that was why once again,
She tried to keep her daughter home.

But the little girl went to school
Eager to tell them all.
About a dad she never sees
A dad who never calls.

There were daddies along the wall in back,
For everyone to meet.
Children squirming impatiently,
Anxious in their seats

One by one the teacher called
A student from the class.
To introduce their daddy,
As seconds slowly passed.

At last the teacher called her name,
Every child turned to stare.
Each of them was searching,
A man who wasn't there.

'Where's her daddy at?'
She heard a boy call out.
'She probably doesn't have one,'
Another student dared to shout.

And from somewhere near the back,
She heard a daddy say,
'Looks like another deadbeat dad,
Too busy to waste his day.'

The words did not offend her,
As she smiled up at her Mom.
And looked back at her teacher,
Who told her to go on.
And with hands behind her back,
Slowly she began to speak.
And out from the mouth of a child,
Came words incredibly unique.

'My Daddy couldn't be here,
Because he lives so far away.
But I know he wishes he could be,
Since this is such a special day.

And though you cannot meet him,
I wanted you to know.
All about my daddy,
And how much he loves me so.

He loved to tell me stories
He taught me to ride my bike.
He surprised me with pink roses,
And taught me to fly a kite.

We used to share fudge sundaes,
And ice cream in a cone.
And though you cannot see him.
I'm not standing here alone.

'Cause my daddy's al ways with me,
Even though we are apart
I know because he told me,
He'll forever be in my heart'

With that, her little hand reached up,
And lay across her chest.
Feeling her own heartbeat,
Beneath her favorite dress. And from somewhere here in the crowd of dads,
Her mother stood in tears.
Proudly watching her daughter,
Who was wise beyond her years.

For she stood up for the love
Of a man not in her life.
Doing what was best for her,
Doing what was right.

And when she dropped her hand back down,
Staring straight into the crowd.
She finished with a voice so soft,
But its message clear and loud.

'I love my daddy very much,
he's my shining star.
And if he could, he'd be here,
But heaven's just too far.

You see he is a soldier
And died just this past year
When a roadside bomb hit his convoy
And taught the world to fear. But sometimes when I close my eyes,
it's like he never went away.'
And then she closed her eyes,
And saw him there that day.

And to her mothers amazement,
She witnessed with surprise.
A room full of daddies and children,
All starting to close their eyes.

Who knows what they saw before them,
Who knows what they felt inside.
Perhaps for merely a second,
They saw him at her side.

'I know you're with me Daddy,'
To the silence she called out.
And what happened next made believers,
Of those once filled with doubt.

Not one in that room could explain it,
For each of their eyes had been closed.
But there on the desk beside her,
Was a fragrant long-stemmed rose.
And a child was blessed, if only for a moment,
By the love of her shining star.
And given the gift of believing,
That heaven is never too far.

Safe Tick Removal

Tick Removal

A nurse discovered a safe, easy way to remove ticks where
they automatically withdraw themselves when you follow her
simple instructions. Read this one as it could save you from
some major problems.

Spring is here and the ticks will soon be showing their heads.
Here is a good way to get them off you, your children,
or your pets. Give it a try.

A School Nurse has written the info below--good enough
to share--and it really works!

"I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best
way to remove a tick. This is great because it works in
those places where it's sometimes difficult to get to with
tweezers: between toes, in the middle of a head full of
dark hair, etc."

"Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick
with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few
seconds (15-20); the tick will come out on its own and be
stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away.

This technique has worked every time I've used it
(and that was frequently), and it's much less traumatic
for the patient and easier for me.."

Also, if you just pull a tick off, their heads sometimes break off
and are left under the skin so this is much safer. Be aware

also that a tick with a white speck on its back is a Deer
Tick, these can cause Tick Fever so check yourself and
your family good if you see any of these!

"Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can't see that this
would be damaging in any way.
Please pass on. Everyone needs this helpful hint.

Hamburger With A Southern Twist

Once in awhile hubby and I decide to have hamburgers at home. Instead of buying beef and making the patties, we purchase the ones already formed into patties. We have a running dialog about how well the burger should be cooked. He likes his still red in the center but I do NOT.

But it never fails that he will take his burger out of the pan while mine is still cooking. After a bit I'll add cheese to the top of mine while finishing cooking. His bun has warmed in the toaster, then mine goes in while my burger is finishing cooking. This is where the frustrating part comes in. My burger still usually looks almost like his in the center and even sometimes LESS cooked. The last time I took a photo but it doesn't do the burgers justice, because they were really red and the photo don't show it. Hubby jokingly said that is because they are "Southern cows, no matter how long you cook it it doesn't matter the cow is used to the heat" it took me quite some time to realize what he had said. I laughed so hard I thought I'd cry and hitting my hand on the table too. Maybe....he has a point there. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that meats just don't taste like they used to when I was growing up. No flavor. But that is just an old grandma's opinion.

Blessed With Great Contractor Custom Wood Creations

When you are looking for a local contractor and no one seems to follow through with coming to give us an estimate. It is such a blessing and relief to find one that is good at what they do. Reasonable in price and shows confidence and pride with the quality of work they have done and will do.

I found just such a contractor by walking up to him while on a job and asking for his business card. Granted it was almost a disappointment when we didn't hear from him and once again thought we'd been forgot. A knock at the front door one day and the young man standing there asked if I was the person that had talked to him on the street a couple houses down. He had misplaced the piece of paper I'd written my name and phone number on, but thought he remembered the house I'd pointed out to him.

He looked at the work that needed done. Called back right away with an estimate. Within a day or two his crew was here starting the job. I was/am impressed with his knowledge and skill for such a young man. The work was done much better than we expected. His workers are very knowledgeable and do excellent work. The workmanship show the pride they take in doing a job right the first time around.

I feel that he was the one God intended to do the work for us. He is a wonderful Christian man that with motto quality first.

Beautiful Doll Houses My Older Sister Makes

I have an older sister in her late sixties that designs and makes doll houses with furniture. Some of the furniture is made by her. If she can't make it then she will buy the item that goes into the house. It takes months for her to make them. The process of creating the items. Making them and designing. These have been for grandchildren or great grandchildren. I have never seen them personally but for her to describe them I know they are beautiful because her home is very homey and that is the way she would make something. They are all made with love which she has a great capacity for. She has six children at least 16 grandchildren and a few great grandchildren.

The blue house in the slide show was just given to her oldest great grandchild. The brown was for her oldest daughter's daughters. The nativity was for a granddaughter that graduated last year. The barn is for grandchildren visiting them to play with at grammy's house.

Map of USA

Gotta love this one!!
USA MAP A father wanted to read a magazine but was being bothered by his little girl. She wanted to know what the United States looked like. Finally, he tore a sheet out of his new magazine on which was printed the map of the country. Tearing it into small pieces, he gave it to her and said, 'Go into the other room and see if you can put this together.

This will show you our whole country today...'
After a few minutes, she returned and handed him the map, correctly fitted and taped together. The father was surprised and asked how she had finished so quickly.. 'Oh,' she said, 'on the other side of the paper is a picture of Jesus.
When I got all of Jesus back where He belonged, Then our country just came together.'

Calling a Truce maybe

This big cat has been in the neighborhood for a long time now. Over a year. It seems to be a stray. About three times bigger than Shadow on the left, but she took a running leap after it a long time ago and tackled it with all four paws wrapped around its body and they both went tumbling across the street. Lately, it has taken more of a liken to our yard verses the one across the street where it usually stays and watches our yard. It goes into our garage and eats our cats food and drinks their water. They don't chase it off as often. We don't chase it off as we know it needs food and water and we aren't cruel.

Grandpas Hands amazing story

" Life without God, is like an unsharpened pencil; it has no point"

Of the hundreds of e-mails I receive, this one might be one of the most honest, real stories that is so real. Enjoy.
Grandpa's Hands

This is good. I'll never look at my hands the same!

Grandpa, some ninety plus years, sat feebly on the patio bench. He didn't move, just sat with his head down staring at his hands. When I sat down beside him he didn't acknowledge my presence and the longer I sat, I wondered if he was OK. Finally, not really wanting to disturb him but wanting to check on him at the same time, I asked him if he was OK.

He raised his head and looked at me and smiled. "Yes, I'm fine. Thank you for asking," he said in a clear strong voice.

"I didn't mean to disturb you, Grandpa, but you were just sitting here staring at your hands and I wanted to make sure you were OK," I explained to him.

"Have you ever looked at your hands," he asked. "I mean really looked at your hands?"

I slowly opened my hands and stared down at them. I turned them over, palms up and then palms down. No, I guess I had never really looked at my hands as I tried to figure out the point he was making. Grandpa smiled and related this story:

"Stop and think for a moment about the hands you have, how they have served you well throughout your years. These hands, though wrinkled, shriveled, and weak have been the tools I have used all my life to reach out and grab and embrace life.

They put food in my mouth and clothes on my back.
As a child my mother taught me to fold them in prayer.
They tied my shoes and pulled on my boots.
They have been dirty, scraped and raw, swollen and bent.
They were uneasy and clumsy when I tried to hold my newborn son.
Decorated with my wedding band they showed the world that I was married and loved someone special.
They trembled and shook when I buried my parents and spouse and walked my daughter down the aisle.
They have covered my face, combed my hair, and washed and cleansed the rest of my body.
They have been sticky and wet, bent and broken, dried and raw.
And to this day, when not much of anything else of me works real well, these hands hold me up, lay me down, and again continue to fold in prayer.
These hands are the mark of where I've been and the ruggedness of my life.
But more importantly it will be these hands that God will reach out and take when he leads me home.
And with my hands He will lift me to His side and there I will use these hands to touch the face of Christ."
I will never look at my hands the same again. But I remember God reached out and took my grandpa's hands and led him home..

When my hands are hurt or sore I think of Grandpa. I know he has been stroked and caressed and held by the hands of God. I, too, want to touch the face of God and feel His hands upon my face.

Passing this on to anyone you consider a friend will bless you both.

Passing this on to one not considered a friend is something Christ would have done.

Things you see on a walk in the park

Things you see on a walk in the park.We have a community park in the sub division where I live. In the past year the county has removed trees and ditched the small strip of land between the park and the next street of houses. The ditch was seeded and landscaping mesh put down to keep the banks from eroding until the grass started growing.

While wa lking th rough the area today I did a double take because I thought I was seeing things. I continued to walk a few paces and then returned and investigated what I though was a stick at the edge of the net. It was a black snake about three plus feet long. I tapped on its tail a few times and it did't move. I presume it got caught in the net and died there(unless it was playing) but I don't think so. These photos were taken with my phone camera because I decided not to take my big one thinking I'd probably not see much to take pictures of. Happens everytime!

Concentrate on this Sentence

Concentrate on this Sentence
'To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did.' When God takes something from your grasp, He's not punishing you, but merely opening your hands to receive something better. Concentrate on this sentence... 'The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.'

There comes a point in your life when you realize:

Who matters,
Who never did,
Who won't anymore...
And who always will.
So, don't worry about people from your past,
there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future.

PRO Siding and Windows is a very efficient crew in Wilmington North Carolina

PRO Siding and Windows is a very efficient crew in Wilmington, North Carolina. Owners Mike Pechersky 910-619-0083 and "Butch" McGlumphy 910-620-7171 are dedicated to keeping their customers happy. Fully insured, free estimates given for vinyl siding and replacement windows.

I was amazed with the dedication and service they supplied to our next door neighbor. Removing siding, windows and trim. Starting early and working through very nasty inclimate weather. Another interesting fact I'm only the neighbor that took a few pictures and Mike remembered my husband and my name each time we saw him. Calling a friendly hello by name, I am terrible with names. Makes you feel good in this day and age.

Tonys Affordable Tree Service and Stump Grinding

Tonys Affordable Tree Service and Stump Grinding is owned and operated by man with many years of experience. He has worked all his life taking down trees and grind out the stumps. He is located in Burgaw, North Carolina.

Today, I have watched his crew skilfully cut down numerous very tall pines in a front yard in my neighborhood. It is truly amazing the skill this crew has. They work quickly, with precise action to do the job. From putting the rope in the right spot and angle to guide it in the direction needed to land it safely on the ground without any damage. One climbs the tree as needed to trim branches and cut the tree top off. Reminds me of a monkey climbing a tree with spiked boots. One trims the branches off after the tree lands. One runs the bobcat and clears the tree branches to a stake body truck for hauling away, then neatly stacks the tree ready to be loaded and hauled away. One notches the tree at the bottom and cuts it on the other side while the crew guides the tree landing with ropes. The road is kept clear for passing vehicles to go through safely. Racking, cleaning and leaf blowing the rest of the residue to the side of the street for cleaning up when the time comes.

Tony brings a stump grinder on the back of a pickup truck and grinds the stump to saw dust while his crew does their part. Very efficient and smooth running.

Attack by a ceiling light glass globe isn't much fun

Attack by a ceiling light glass globe isn't much fun. While filling my washing machine today, I felt something hit my head and land on the dryer. It was such a shock I didn't realize what had happened until I saw it in the plastic wash dish I keep on the dyer for lint and used dryer sheets.

The glass globe fell five feet plus before stricking my head and I guess you would say bouncing to the dryer. Amazingly it didn't break. My head has a knot on it and hurts. I didn't get dizzy or knocked out, so I figure I'll be fine. Will watch for other symptoms as the week goes by.

The size is about 8 inch across and 3-4 inch high and heavy. We were supposed to take it down and replace it with a close to ceiling over 5 years ago when we moved here but hadn't got around to it. Needless to say it was done today. We put that one into a bathroom that needed more light. It was replaced by a close to ceiling kind we already had.
Do you see the door corner to the left? That has hit the previous light every time opening to get detergent or dryer sheets, etc. Probably loosened the screws to the globe and didn't know it. Can you imagine all those years and the one split second it let go, I was standing under it! The noise was so loud my husband heard it outside where he was working in the yard. He thought it was one of the cats jumping on something until I went outside to tell him what happened and ask him to look at my head to make sure it wasn't cut. Nope, just a lump rising.

Creating Meals that taste a little like heaven gives you a great feeling of accomplishment

Creating Meals that taste a little like heaven gives you a great feeling of accomplishment. Over the years my creativity has become more tasteful. My husband says there is no comparison even with the expert chefs. I have a knack as I get older to not rely on making my meals exactly as the recipe calls for but doing my own thing with it. It is amazing what you can do with a recipe and make it taste delicious but not quite like the original person has done.

I was afraid for years to experiment. What a big mistake that was. My family would have grown to like different things. My cooking is very simple without all the fancy things that chef's do, but are so delicious that you will eat it each meal and be very disappointed when there is no more. I usually can't recreate it the same way twice. This week I made a spaghetti sauce that is out of this world. These are some of the ingredients. Last time I used diced tomatoes this time crushed tomatoes created less liquid.
The problem with that is now I have to make a pizza with it as well. We made one from my spaghetti sauce before and it was so delicious that nothing compares to it now. It was the best pizza we have ever tasted!

The spice combinations I use are so different and varied and I never write anything down. I did use two onions chopped as small as I could get them, a HUGE clove of garlic(I do mean huge), package of sliced mushrooms(I chopped), 1 lb of hot sausage and 1 lb of ground turkey, Mrs Dash original seasoning, Mrs Dash chicken seasoning, sprinkled little more red pepper flakes, black pepper mill to the cooking meats. It turned out wonderful.
